Separation doesn’t tear families apart. Conflict does.
Kids’ Turn launches services for grandparents in 2012. Grandparents can now attend workshops with their separating adult children and grandchildren. For more details on where and when The Kids’ Turn Way, Grandparents is offered, go to the Workshops page.
Family separation is hard on everyone. Every year one million children are affected by parental separate or divorce. This can increase childhood risk factors, such as academic difficulty, obesity and even asthma. But it’s not the separation itself that causes these effects. Instead, it’s ongoing conflict and lack of healthy communication.
That’s why there’s Kids’ Turn. Kids’ Turn is the premiere program in the very specialized field of divorce education. Since our start in 1988, we’ve helped more than 16,000 children and parents cope with the turmoil that can come from separation. Our workshops help children understand and express the difficult emotions associated with parental separation while teaching family members new ways to support affected children.
The material specifically teaches separated parents co-parenting skills designed to help them cooperatively raise their child(ren).
Our programs work. A long-term study published in 2009 showed that Kids’ Turn workshops effectively reduced parent conflict, alienation and internalization of negative behaviors by children.
Kids’ Turn is for everyone going through divorce or separation. As a non-profit organization, Kids’ Turn does not turn anyone away due to inability to pay; parents pay tuition on a sliding fee basis and children are not charged. Our services are conducted locally in English, Chinese and Spanish
