Kids' Turn

Putting kids in the center of healing, not in the middle of conflict

workshops: Overview

Kids’ Turn offers workshops for every age group.

Who: Parents and their school-aged children (ages 5-17). Children meet in their own age-appropriate groups to discuss their feelings around divorce and separation while parents meet simultaneously in separate groups.  Two parent groups are conducted so separating parents do not have to be in the same room together.   Both parents are encouraged to attend when possible, but one parent may attend with their children.

It is okay for parents to attend without their children but if you do want your children to participate, you must bring them to ALL the sessions.

What: This program provides a safe place for children to discuss their thoughts and feelings and gives them tools to cope with parental separation. It also helps parents learn the skills to successfully co-parent their child(ren).

Importantly, parents learn to understand the child’s perspective so they can support their children, reduce family conflict and prevent childhood difficulties.

The program content is based on Kids’ Turn’s world class curriculum, The Kids’ Turn Way.  The material helps children and parents learn healthy ways to manage their emotions while the family is changing.

When: This workshop will be held once a week on either a weekday evening or Saturday. Requires a four-week commitment.  Note:  On rare occasion, if we do not get the minimum number of participants we need to run a workshop, we may have to postpone or cancel the workshop.  If this occurs we will notify you at least four days before the workshop begins.

Where: These workshops are offered in Marin, Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo, San Francisco and Santa Clara counties. They include Spanish language programs in San Francisco’s Mission community, 415.824.9475.

Who: This workshop is just for parents of very young children (ages 0-4). These workshops can only accommodate one parent per family.  If you are not sure if the other parent is already registered, please call the Kids’ Turn office to find out before you process your registration.

What: The Early Years Curriculum is designed to help parents understand the impact on their young children of family reorganization. This is a developmental stage when children need to attach to their family members. It teaches parents skills for promoting healthy development through cooperative parenting.
